St. Moritz Art Masters

August 6, 2017

The tenth edition of the St. Moritz Art Masters art and culture festival is set to open at the end of August. Photography legend Peter Lindbergh and Leica photographer Roger Ballen feature as part of this year’s festival programme.
The tenth edition of the St. Moritz Art Masters takes place in the Swiss high-alpine resort from 26 August to 3 September 2017.

After celebrating the works of American photographer Albert Watson in 2016, the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains will be showcasing the exhibition Art from the Pirelli World this year. Pirelli’s identity is made up of passions: from tyres to racing, art to sport, Pirelli Design to the famous Calendar.

In a brief but evocative journey into the Pirelli world, the exhibition will be displayed in the „Pirelli Lounge“ at the Kempinski Hotel. The exhibition is in two parts: the first being 70 images of 3 Pirelli Calendars, photographed by Peter Lindbergh displayed in a special section displayed to the photographer’s collaboration with The Cal™, celebrating his third contribution to the iconic calendar: 1996, 2002, 2017. The second is Pirelli Design which is the evolution of the Pirelli Pzero project, launched by Pirelli in the early 2000s.

Also on view at the Kempinski hotel will be the energetic paparazzi-like photographs from the Flash series by Lenny Kravitz as well as the fascinating S2 on Safari project by Leica ambassador Florian Wagner. At the same time, Galerie Karsten Greve, located in the heart of St. Moritz will reintroduce the haunting black and white photographs of Roger Ballen. The mesmerizing imagery created by selftaught photographer Ballen, who carries a PhD in geology and was born in New York in 1950, are the result of meticulously arranging countless elements by strategically installing them like props on a stage. With his distinctive visual narratives, Ballen has quickly risen to widespread acclaim and belongs to the most iconic photographers of our times.
