The work represents an artistic research into the ambivalence of the element water. How do we perceive water? How is water marketed? What dreams are associated with this element?
Over a period of two years, Schäfer focussed on the phenomenon water. The outcome is a series of photographs, drawings and objects, looking at the correlations between the aesthetics of water within a capitalist system, and its inherent romanticism, power and fascination. In the process, the artist removes her photographic motifs from their original, narrative context, and reorders them within a framework that she defines.
