The Unguarded Moment
The Museum für Gestaltung is the first Swiss venue to present an overview of the American photographer's vibrant body of work. Compiled in collaboration with the Magnum Agency and Steve McCurry himself, the exhibition paints a vivid picture of Eastern life. In powerful colours, McCurry captures mosques, landscapes, temples and people, and illustrates the fusion between religion and day-to-day life. "Most of my images are centred on people," McCurry once said about his work. "I search for the unguarded moment when the essence of the soul is revealed and a person's experience is written on their face."
The Girl with Green Eyes
Steve McCurry first gained acclaim in 1979, when he smuggled his first photographs out of occupied Afghanistan disguised as a Mujahideen fighter. A few years later, he took his now iconic picture of the Afghan girl with piercing green eyes in a refugee camp in Pakistan. In the decades since, the photographer has maintained his deep connection with the Asian continent.
